As one of Hong Kong’s youngest and most prominent street artists, Bao Ho has taken the art world by storm. In addition to winning the international art battle tournament, The Secret Walls in Hong Kong, Bao has been commissioned for projects by POW!WOW!TAIWAN x Gogoro. She has also worked with big corporations like Nike, Microsoft, Google, Starbucks and many others since. Last week Ambassadas got to visit with her and chat about how this busy year has been for her so far.
Ambassadas: Hello Bao, introduce yourself to us please?
Bao: Hi, I'm Bao, I was born and raised in Hong Kong. It’s been a delight to be a full time "artist" since last year. I love two things: painting and cats.
Ambassadas: Now, Bao isn’t your full name, so tell us, where does your tag name Bao come from?
Bao: It’s actually from the day care center when I was a baby; it was a nickname given to me and everyone calls me Bao. It's quite easy to remember and kind of special so I kept using it even after I grew up.
Ambassadas: So how would you say you define yourself? Artist? Street artist? Anything else?
Bao: Usually I don't really say I'm an artist. But sometimes if I’m feeling lazy it’s easier to describe myself that way. In that case, I’d use “artist,” but the reality is I’m just doing what I love to do – painting.

Ambassadas: It’s been almost a year after you were the champion at the Hong Kong Wall; how’s this year treating you?
Bao: It’s been crazy! Lots of projects and many amazing opportunities to show my work. As a young girl I never thought I could earn a living doing my art in Hong Kong. I totally understand how hard it is for creative people trying to break into the field. I feel super lucky and flattered to have come so far.
Ambassadas: What projects have you done?
Bao: I have been lucky enough to work with many companies like Nike, Microsoft, Google, Starbucks and many others. Lately I worked with Tiger beer for their "Air Ink" project so be on the lookout for that.

Ambassadas: We know you’re busy traveling this year. Where have you been and what have you done? Which cities are the most inspiring for you?
Bao: I've actually just returned from Taiwan where I was working on a commissioned project for POW!WOW!TAIWAN x Gogoro and that was a treat. As far as inspiring cities, in January I went to Prague for another commissioned project, and I really fell in love with the city. I have to say, though, anything can inspire me wherever I am. So it’s hard to say what place has inspired me the most.
Ambassadas: Which project do you love the most?
Bao: I like most of my projects as usually people ask me to paint because of my style. This is great because it allows me the space to do whatever I like.
Ambassadas: What inspires you most when it comes to creation?
Bao: The lives of people and my own emotions, I’d have to say.

Ambassadas: How do you like to relax?
Bao: Lately I’ve been doing sports, like running and boxing.
Ambassadas: Is there a specific thought or message you would like to pass to our audience out there?
Bao: Have a good day!
